Clean Up and Paint Up Drive Boosts Alpine Civic Pride

Alpine residents join the Clean Up and Paint Up contest led by the Alpine Garden Club with wide city and county support. Entries are arriving at The Avalanche KVLF Alpine Chamber of Commerce and local drugstores. Judges from civic groups will review areas April 18 to 20 with cleanup scheduled April 16 and 17 and the drive runs through April 13, 1963.

Hendryx Opposes Redistricting Gop Plan Narrowing 16th District

State Rep. Gene Hendryx of Alpine condemns a congressional redistricting bill that would move Brewster and other West Texas counties from the 16th District. He calls the proposal ill conceived, says the counties belong with the 16th, and plans to offer an amendment to restore them if possible.

District Volleyball Meet To Be Held Here Friday

The District 7 AA Volleyball Tournament will take place at Alpine High School gym Friday. Alpine faces the winner of Stanton and Sonora at 2 p.m. The winner advances to Alpine after a Big Lake semifinal. Crane and McCamey also meet, with admission 25 cents students 50 cents adults. Officials include Jo Turner Gail Cunningham Robbie Cannon Jean Reed and Mrs Lillian Kouitz directing.

Alpine High School earned second place in a Stanton play contest. Best Actor went to Joe Wright, with Esther Wright and Guy Woodruff named to the All Star Cast. Loretta Williams directed The Bishop's Candlesticks, featuring Wright, Wright, Woodruff, Shortt, Francois, Carpenter and others.
