Lobos Split In Arizona After Upset and Narrow Loss

The Sul Ross Lobos beat Arizona State 9 4 for their first win over the Sun Devils in 9 years, then lost 1 0 to Arizona State in the second game. Jerry Tyson earned the shutout for Arizona in the 1 0 victory. Buddy Antwine left with a shoulder injury after a key catch. Jim Sears drove in the winning run. Next week the Lobos host Texas Tech at Kokemot Field with a 2 p.m start Tuesday and a 1 30 p.m doubleheader Wednesday.

Fence Sought For Cemetery

In 1957 the Memorial Fence Fund was started to build a rock fence at the west boundary of Elmgrove Cemetery and beautify the entrance. The Alpine Cemetery Association seeks contributions to begin erection and plans a plaque listing loved ones honored by gifts. Alpine Lions Club to Elect Officers Next Tuesday

The Alpine Lions Club will elect new officers at the regular luncheon meeting in the Holland Hotel. All members are urged to attend. The club will also vote on a district queen’s contest candidate to be held later this month in El Paso.

New Council Set for Swearing In After Election Vote

New council members D. McCollister T. A. Beard and Homer Hudgins were chosen in Tuesday’s election with 472 total votes. Hudgins led with 374, McCollister 311, Beard 229. others included Taylor 153 Doyle Vincent 135 Wallace Neu 93 and 19 write ins. The council canvassed results yesterday and will swear in Monday. Elmer Devenport Rites Held at First Methodist Church

Funeral services were conducted for Elmer Devenport 60 a civil engineer at 3 p.m. in Alpine Texas. He died after a heart attack at Brewster County Memorial Hospital early Tuesday. Burial followed in Elm Grove Cemetery. Survivors include three sons two daughters a brother and three grandchildren.

Mrs Peck supreme worthy president of the Social Order of the Beauceant will visit Alpine Assembly No. 186 on Monday April 5 A dinner at 6 p m at the Ponderosa Restaurant will honor her. Two trustees will be chosen in Alpine School District in the annual election held Saturday April 6. Sul Ross to Stage Second Intercollegiate Drama Festival

Sul Ross State College hosts the second annual intercollegiate drama festival on Friday and Saturday April 5 and 6 with the American comedy as the theme. The program features stage readings and full performances including Life with Father and No Time for Comedy among others, produced by Sul Ross and Texas Western with faculty and student participants and a lecture by drama critic Joan Quarum in Fort Davis.

16th District Unchanged in Redistricting Amendment

The House passed an amendment keeping the 16th Congressional District intact by restoring Brewster Presidio Jeff Davis Crane Pecos Upton Ward and Terrell Counties to the district. Rep Gene Hendryx of Alpine and Rep Dick Slack of Pecos led the effort and Hendryx said he was highly pleased with the passage.
