In the National A U A tournament at Denver the Sul Ross Lobos fell 41 36 to Oregon Normal of Portsmouth Oregon. Mead Luna led the Lobos with 14 points while they trailed 31 12 at halftime and mounted a late comeback. Other regional teams fared worse including New Mexico Teachers Silver City and New Mexico Aguies.

Prisoner Hernandez Escapes County Jail Wall
George Hernandez an Alpine Mexican youth indicted in a recent robbery is at large after escaping the county jail last Sunday by digging through a wall with a shovel handle. He used bricks loosened from the wall and the hole had not been repaired. His whereabouts are unknown. Also, Mr and Mrs Eugene Benson moved into a new home on West College Avenue.

WPA Officials Report District 20 Meet In El Paso
L D Wordworth and R B Anderson joined A W Holden at the district 20 meeting in El Paso on March 6 with A E Owens and other officials. The treasurer of Alpine Cemetery issued the annual report for the period starting January 1. Approved recently, the report shows expenses of 1295 with a net after 30 percent to the national headquarters 2862. Receipts include books labor 66.78 and a balance on hand March 9 of 146.49.

A late Monday night fire hazard in the Hord building on Holland avenue near Sixth street was stopped by an Alpine Drug Store employee and night watchman Howard Hamilton. Smoke issued from the heating plant behind Nolders barber shop and the fuel feed was shut off before flames fully developed. Barber shop Mab McCool’s suffered smoke damage. drug store quarters had only slight damage.

Alpine Plumber Injured in El Paso Highway Crash
R A McMurry head of McMurry Plumbing suffered a serious chest and shoulder injuries in a highway wreck near McNary on Saturday night. Blinded by lights from a following car, his vehicle struck a bridge rail and overturned. He was taken first to Fabens then moved to El Paso for treatment. Mrs McMurry stays at his bedside as X rays reveal a crushed chest and other injuries.

Many Cars Yet Unregistered Here Ahead of Deadline
Only 11 weekdays remain to register automobiles and secure drivers licenses in the county. Deputy tax collector Milton Siglmer said about 3000 drivers are eligible, with roughly 1350 already applying and 299 auto licenses issued, leaving about 1150未to register before April 1. Auto Wreck Near Presidio Leaves Three Men Unhurt

An health seeker who had lived in Alpine at the west edge of town for a year died Tuesday morning around 9. The body was shipped to Sulligent Alabama by his wife and one year old baby. Mrs Conway will live with her parents in Kilgore Texas after returning from Alabama.

Casing Planned At Test North of Here After Drilling Milestone
