Observatory Expansion Is Approved at McDonald Observatory
The Defense Department will spend over 1 million dollars on a major space study project at McDonald Observatory in the Davis Mountains north of Fort Davis. UT President Dr. Logan Wilson says UT will contribute up to 300000 from its oil and gas endowment earnings. The House and Senate approved allowing UT regents to use 300000 for the project, with construction funded from UT sources. The plan includes dormitories and facilities, with the Arizona site and Chilean project noted as alternatives and a 18 month construction advantage cited.
