Alpine High School topped the annual Inter scholastic League Academic WarmUp with 305 points, Balmorhea and Presidio tied for second. Alpine Band Plans Odessa Trip For Music Contest

The Alpine band will travel to Odessa with about 40 students to participate in special music events hosted by the University I terscholastic League at Bow Junior High School. Judges include Raph Rauch Vinita Oki Eldon Sonnenburg Sherman Texas Ida E Cree and more. Performances feature flute solos and quartets, clarinet groups, saxophone pieces, trumpet solos, and brass ensembles. The group departs at 7 am Saturday and returns that evening after contests conclude.

Big Bend Park Dedication Draws 1500 West Texans

About 1500 West Texans are invited to attend the Big Bend National Park dedication on Sunday April 3. Hugh White leads the development committee and the event features Thomas J Allen as speaker. Food is planned by Rio Grande Village and Yarbro of Marathon heads the committee for a barbecue and picnic lunch across camp sites in the Basin area. A devotional service is set for 9 30 AM before the dedication.

Alpine Pumps Record Water Use at 1120 gpm

Mayor W. E. Lockhart reported city water use reached 1120 gallons per minute for 24 hours, an all time high, amid warm weather. Wells in Sunny Glen and City wells 5 and 9 were used unexpectedly, with several inactive wells brought online. The record reflects public confidence in the system and widespread outdoor watering during spring.

Legion Observes 41st Anniversary at Big Bend Post 7

A capacity crowd attended the American Legion 41st birthday celebration at the Gion Hall of Big Bend Post 7. Commander Henry Bailey welcomed members and guests and paid tribute to Capt. C. D. Wood and charter members. After dinner, specialty acts and dancing followed. John Skinner led auxiliary arrangements with Tory Oliver in charge of entertainment.
