New Water Rate Set After March Meter Readings
City readers are reminded the new water rate, approved by the City Commission, takes effect after March meter readings. Bills reflecting the increase will be mailed May 1. The rate rises to 1.00 per 1000 gallons for usage over 10,000 gallons, up from 0.30.

West Texas Geologists Tail Field Trip Details
Three hundred eighty six members of the West Texas Geological Society made reservations for the 1955 spring field trip. About 274 stayed in Alpine motels and the Holland Hotel, 112 at Marathon lodging. Alpine securing water rights on one acre of Kokernot Hill opposite Kokernot Lodge after talks with Kokernot owner in New York and city officials. Geochemist Stephan Riess selected the site after tests and bidding will begin once specs are complete. Riess expects water around 400 to 500 feet with potential flows up to 500 gallons per minute.

Brewster County health officer Dr J E Wright says if the Saik polio vaccine is licensed next month, children in the first four grades will receive it free through the county. County Officials Plan Visit to New Braunfels Hospital

Marathon and Sanderson Dial Telephone Building Contract
A contract for constructing dial telephone buildings in Marathon and Sanderson has been awarded to Tom Bowers and Son of Fort Stockton. G A Eimann of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. announced that work will start soon and finish by late spring. Each building will be frame construction with asbestos shingle siding and will house the new dial system equipment behind the current central office sites.
