Hancock Hill Chosen For Drilling Location

Hancock Hill east of Kokernot Lodge will host a water well project after engineers finish specifications. Mayor Hugh White announced bids will be called, with geochemist Stephan Riess selecting the site and Ashley Classen overseeing health and drilling requirements in El Paso. Riess expects 400 to 500 feet depth and about 300 gallons per minute, yielding 21.6 million gallons per 30 days if limits allow. The city negotiates one acre with Glenn Kokernot for the site, and a larger future well may follow based on initial results.

West Texas Pioneer Mrs W L Kingston Succumbs

West Texas pioneer Mrs W L Kingston died at home in Balmorhea after an illness of about a year. Survived by husband age 96, a sister Mrs A J Tippit of Abilene. Funeral and burial held in Balmorhea Cemetery with services last Sunday.

Gearhart Girl Exhibits Champ Steer At Odessa

Martha Ann Gearhart of Valentine Brewster County 4-H Club showed the champion baby beef steer at the Sand Hills Hereford and Quarter Horse Show in Odessa. Her lightweight steer won first in its division and then captured championship honors. She also showed grand champion steers at the Big Bend Stock Show Alpine and the El Paso show.

Sul Ross Lobos Open 1955 Baseball in Arizona

Sul Ross Lobos depart to Tucson Ariz to start the 1955 season with two games against Arizona University today and tomorrow. Coachs expect a stronger lineup than last year after a split with Arizona and anticipate Baylor visits next week at Kobernot Field. Fort Bliss Falcons set two games in Alpine March 25 and 26.

Funeral Services Held Here Monday For Former Resident

The body of Mrs. Lucy Page Hord age 66 a former Stewster County resident who died in a Del Rio hospital last Sunday after a short illness was brought here for burial Monday. Interment was in Elm Grove Cemetery beside her husband. She was born December 26 1888 in Socorro New Mexico to Clara Clare and Joseph Page and married Evan Hord in El Paso April 10 1907. The couple moved to Alpine after marriage and later to Del Rio area twelve years ago. Mrs. Hord survived by daughters Carrol Harper and C L McKinney both of Del Rio and Mrs Teil Bishop of Carrnegi and Mrs Sam W Childer Alpine eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Pallbearers included Earnest Varga Ned Bishop Jimmy Hutto Buck Bishop Leo Bishop and others. Funeral attendance included several out‑of‑town relatives.

March 16 Meet To Air Tourist Promotion Plans

Three agencies plan a 8 p m meeting March 16 in the Alpine Chamber of Commerce building to coordinate efforts promoting tourist travel to Alpine and the Big Bend Davis Mountain area. Marathon March 8 Funeral services for George W Page who died in Alpine were held at Marathon Baptist Church with Rev Doyle Uley officiating. Interment in Marathon Cemetery. Born August 4 1859 in county he married Lily Young in 1902 at Alpine and had six children Tom Geordie Newton Evelyn Joe who died before him. Surviving are his wife three sons Tom Page Geordie Page Newton Page two daughters Mrs Ochis Lee Alpine and Gil Smith California eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
