A special grand jury indicted Edward Francis Mu Murphy who pleaded guilty and drew two three year terms in the penitentiary for forgery. He allegedly cashed two $14.85 forged checks on M L Hopson of Alpine. Murphy, from Fort Worth, had a long prison record across 11 states with multiple aliases and prior terms. District Attorney Alan Fraser planned to file perjury charges after sentencing.

Up to yesterday morning 126 motor vehicle licenses for 1941 had been issued at the tax collector's office. The breakdown includes 87 passenger vehicles, 20 farm, and 19 commercial. Lee R. Daniel a Former Alpine Resident Dies
Lee R. Daniel aged 79 died in Dallas last Saturday after visiting his daughter in Dallas. A Spanish American War veteran, he had lived in Alpine for about four years with his widow, a daughter in Dallas and a son in California. Burial plans were set for Harlingen, the former home, with his sister-in-law Mrs. E. D. Linn of Alpine.
