February Term Court Ends After One Case Heard
The February district court finished its work after two short sessions on Monday and adjourned. Petit jurors were excused for the term. Only one case was heard, Gussie Linn Brown as executrix versus Mary Linn Brown et al, to construe the will granting authority to sell real estate. Judge W C Jackson of Fort Stockton presided. Judge Hunter Metcalfe had disqualified himself as attorney for Mrs Brown. A special term will be held later this month for two to three civil cases.

New Information Office Opens for Friendly Service Bureau
A new Friendly Service information bureau opened north of the U S 90 and U S 41 junction, near the coast road toward Texas and the Florida coast. The office serves visitors traveling south on the highway and planning routes to the coast, as the organization expands to 18 bureaus coast to coast with two eastern representatives and four western bureaus already in place.

Benefit Concert Raises Funds for British Children Relief
A Sunday musicale at Sul Ross auditorium directed by Miss Irma Lee Batey brought singers from Marathon Fort Davis Maria and Alpine into a choir of about 100. The program featured Alpine Children's chorus Fort Davis Ladies chorus Marfa Women's chorus Alpine String Ensemble and Marathon soloist Eldon McGonagill. A net contribution of 11 19 was raised for relief and rehabilitation of British children with strong audience praise and thanks to organizer Mrs Perry Fort Davis public schools.

Fort Worth man jailed for forging checks in Alpine case
A Fort Worth man known as Edward Francis Murphy, 52, was jailed on charges of passing and attempting to pass seven forged checks drawn on First National Bank. The checks, all for 14.85 and payable to Robert Burke, bore the signature of M. L. Hopson of Alpine. Murphy claimed a stranger handed him the checks to cash, and an examining trial was set for yesterday.

Scout Leadership Course To Be Held In The Big Bend
A Scout Leadership course for men over 18 will be offered in the Big Bend district at Marfa and Alpine on March 10 11 and 12. The sessions invite all interested in working with youth and supporting the Scout free plan for boys welfare. Alpine meetings convene at the chamber of commerce office each evening at 7:30.

Dr Alexander Wetmore assistant secretary of the Smithsonian reports Big Bend country near the proposed national park holds much promise for dinosaur remains. Benefit Dance Boosts Greek Relief Fund to 376.85
The Greek Relief fund rose to 376.85 after a benefit dance at the courthouse last Saturday netted 25. Local gifts included Mrs. John Nance one dollar Bill King one dollar Gene Cartledge two dollars Lou Spencer one dollar and B. Davis two dollars. The drive is completed and funds will be sent to the national headquarters in New York City.

Burlesque Show Nets for Granada Theatre Night
The 20 30 Club staged a burlesque style show at the Granada theatre Tuesday night earning 92. Members with help from several men dressed for Alpine films presented 46 entries. Pete Adams won first prize a cuspidor for the best costume while a 100 pound sugar sack draped his 200 pound frame. The high school band performed as a packed audience, many in the aisles.

Legislators Back Big Bend Park Purchase Bill
In Austin on March 3 the Senate finance committee quickly approved a 1.5 million dollar appropriation to finish buying land for the proposed Big Bend National Park. Sen H L Winfield of Fort Stockton, author, said private funds could speed the project and attract state and business support to justify the expenditure.

Importance of U S 67 Stressed by Texas counties
County judges from Brewster Pecos and Presidio told the Texas Highway Commission in Austin that completing gaps in U S 67 from Alpine to Fort Stockton is vital as a continental through route to the Mexican border. Texas House Appropriations Committee members toured the Big Bend region from Alpine to Marathon to inspect scenery and sites for a proposed 778,000 acre national park in Brewster County. The trip, led by W O Reed and with State Parks officials, aims to bolster a 1.8 million dollar appropriation for land purchases in support of House Bill 63.
