Southern Pacific Depot Replacement Underway in Alpine
Work began on a new Southern Pacific depot replacing the fire-destroyed structure of January 12, 1946 with Ralph Peters as contractor. Bids for a Sul Ross College swimming pool open May 1, funded by $50,000 in bonds sold to an Austin firm. Alpine residents saw snow and sleet during the night with a low of 23. District updates note building program delays due to high material costs while Central Elementary is renovated and a four-room Centennial addition progresses. Local athletes set records as Leroy Rutledge scored 72 in Region 8B play. Missionary Society held a Feb 25 meeting at the Club House.
