Public Schools Week Open House in Alpine

Parents of Alpine Public Schools invited to return to class Monday and Tuesday March 3 and 4 for Public Schools Week. Evening open houses for Central and Centennial grades 1-8 and Alpine High with a 7 pm start, 10 minute class previews, teacher introductions, science fair displays, and invitation to all Alpine citizens.

Kim Lane Memorial Fighting Heart Award Created by Alpine Boosters

The Alpine High Boosters vote to create the Kim Lane Memorial Fighting Heart Award for football players who overcome obstacles to continue playing. The first award will be given April 14 at the all sports banquet, with Gene Mayfield to speak, and a large trophy to be engraved with winners each year. Tickets go on sale in two weeks as officers prepare for the 1969-70 nominating report.

Sul Ross Board Approves New Industrial Arts Building

State Board of Regents for Senior Colleges approves construction of a new Sul Ross Industrial Arts Building at 173,988 cost with John Bright Construction Co. San Angelo. The vote also adds Masters of Arts in Physical Education and Masters of Business Administration. Botany field class to be taught at Boquillas Station in Big Bend National Park. Clock bell system bid withdrawn. Bond advisory renewal options debated for Jackson Field upgrades. May delay on building-use fee amount and tuition impact.

One City Candidate Files For City Council Seats

Three council seats to be filled on April 1 for two year terms with filing ongoing until March 4. Incumbents Paul Vogt Alberto Rojo and Tom Connor face election with Connor seeking re election. Connor filed with City Secretary Marjorie Graham yesterday as Vogt could not be reached. Election coincides with school board vote in the Chamber of Commerce building.

Alpine School Board Sees Three Candidates File for Two Seats

Three candidates have filed for two three year terms on the Alpine School Board as of yesterday. Incumbent Johny Sotello, John Stradley and Molly Coffin are running with Sotello and Keith Morrow's terms expiring this year. Morrow will not seek re election. Election is set for Saturday April in the Central School Cafeteria with filing due by Tuesday March 4.

Weber Case Set for Monday Pre-trial Hearing

Weber Jr. is set for an 11 a.m. Monday March 3 pre-trial hearing before District Judge C. F. Patterson on a murder with malice indictment for the July 18 1968 fatal shooting of John Tillman Davis at his home. Weber’s attorney may seek a change of venue. Jurors are summoned to appear at 10 a.m. Tuesday March 4, Karney said.
