Plymouth Oil to drill new test in Jeff Davis County
Plymouth Oil Co will drill a new oil test on the H. L. Kokernot and Son ranch 13 miles north of Fort Davis. The 10,000 foot test will use a rotary rig and start about three miles south of a Conoco dry hole abandoned at 9,563 feet. The location lies 660 feet from the northwest and 884 feet from the southwest lines of Section 11, Block WJG-10, D&PRR survey.

Brewster county chapter of the American Red Cross will launch its annual fund raising campaign March 15 led by campaign chairwoman Mrs Sammie Snure. Mrs. Mattie Ann Hale Dies After Months of Illness
Mrs. Mattie Ann Hale 69 died Friday night at her West College Ave home after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Christian church with Rev. Austin J. Hollingsworth officiating. Burial followed in Elm Grove cemetery. Surviving are her husband W. C. Hale, a daughter in Hartford Conn., six sons in Slaton Odessa El Paso Alpine and Sonora, two brothers two sisters and four grandsons.

Pioneer resident Mrs Kimball dies after long illness
Mrs C F Kimball 84 a Brewster county ranch family member and Alpine resident for nearly 50 years died Wednesday morning after about three months of illness. Born February 10 1870 in Lamar County she was married December 21 1893 to C F Kimball who died in 1937. Funeral services were held at First Methodist Church with interment in Elm Grove Cemetery. Surviving are son Otis H wife Virginia grandson Keesey Kimball wife Mary Ellen three great grandchildren and brother George A Stevenson of Paris Texas.

About 50 industrial education teachers attended the fourth quarterly meeting of the West Texas Industrial Education Assn at Sul Ross College. Dr. De Witt Hunt, editor and authority on safety education, lectured on school shop planning and safety education. Bids Sought For Paving Roads To Scout Camps
The city announces bids for paving access roads to scout camps while documenting progress on the John F. Lane ranch well. Casing tests at 295 feet follow earlier readings at 125 and 175 feet in a stable gravel formation with water within 60 feet of the hole. The upper South Hill well pump is installed and a 70 gallon pump goes into the Cowell well, with automatic controls planned for seven wells next week.

State Highway bids seek summer paving for West Texas camps
The State Highway Dept invites bids to pave roads from Highway 118 to the Girl Scout Mitre Peak camp and from Highway 17 to the Buffalo Trail Council Boy Scout camp. Alpine band concert date moved to Tuesday
The beginner, junior and senior bands of Alpine schools will now perform Tuesday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Alpine high school auditorium. Directed by E. Joe Lee, the concert is sponsored by the Band Boosters to raise funds. Admission is 25 cents for adults, 10 cents for students, and preschool children free.

Park Officials Plan To Transfer Big Horn Sheep To Chisos Mt Area
Big Bend National Park plans to move desert big horn sheep from the Kofa refuge in southern New Mexico to upper Punta de la Sierra near Mt. Emory. Transfer depends on Fish and Wildlife survey results and rainfall recovery to restore vegetation damaged by prior domesticated goats. The project marks the park’s first major wildlife experiment alongside antelope restocking in the 700000 acre park.

The Fort Davis Indians fell 75-56 to the Rankin Red Devils in the Region 8 Class B tourney at Odessa College. Rankin claimed the regional title for the second straight year.
