Alpine Country Club Plans Holiday Weekend Events
Alpine Country Club outlines a busy July 4 weekend with a members dance Saturday night from 9 to 1, free admission for members, $3 for in-town guests per couple, and a 6:30 p.m. pot luck supper to pair golfers for Monday mornings mixed scotch foursomes. Sunday hosts a 6:30 p.m. supper, then a 8 a.m. breakfast Monday with self-provided food and family grills. The 9:30 a.m. start for the mixed foursome leads to all-day golf, driving putting and approaching contests with prizes. A 4 p.m. swimming and diving meet for all ages follows, with 3:45 p.m. registration.

Alpine 4th of July Jubilee Opens at 10 Monday
Alpine's July 4th Jubilee on Brewster County Courthouse lawn will begin at 10 a.m. Monday with a military display from Fort Bliss, baking and baby contests, a car smash, games, wagon and fire truck rides, and more. Army to Display Hawk Missile at Alpine July Fourth Jubilee

Joy Sharon Heil, daughter of Mr and Mrs Vic Heil, was named one of 10 area winners in the 1966 Adams Extract Teenage Bake-Off. She will receive a Philco electric range along with her sponsoring teacher Mrs Jack Perryman. Death of Barney A Johnson 94 Father of Fort Davis Police Chief
Barney A Johnson 94 died Wednesday June 29 at Brewster County Memorial Hospital. Born April 2 1872 in Alabama he moved from Ellis County Texas to Fort Davis 56 years ago and lived with Police Chief Jack Johnson. Survived by daughter Ella Midkiff of El Paso three sons Vernon Robert and Preston of El Paso and Fort Davis, four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Funeral at 10 a.m. Friday at Fort Davis Presbyterian Church with Rev W L Van Auken officiating.
