Unanimous City Council Drops Sunny Glen Dam Permit
At a special meeting yesterday the City Council rescinded the Sunny Glen Dam permit and ordered a Musquiz Creek water well test. The action, announced by Mayor W E Lockhart, aims to settle a suit by Mr and Mrs John Stradley against the City and the Texas Water Rights Commission. Ed Reed will supervise a drill on Herbert L Kokernot land using cable tools for a 30 day test with a City pump.

Breland Takes Over Local Mobil Station
W B Ward announced Dalma C Breland has taken over operation of the Mobil service station at 509 East Holland, to operate as Breland Service Station. Ward remains Mobil consignee and handles bulk gasoline fuel oil and ranch. The business is being repainted and renovated as the Brelands relocate from Venezuela after 13 years. They have two sons Steve and D C Jr. The family bought a home on North 16th Street.

The annual Independence Day celebration on Brewster County Court House lawn begins at 10 a.m. with carnival booths, a Fourth Army missile launcher demonstration from Fort Bliss, a pie cake and candy contest at 2 p.m., a baby contest with two age divisions, bake sales and games sponsored by local clubs, a Big Bend Legion barbecue at 11:30 a.m., and ticket prices of 1 for adults, 75 cents for children.

City Council approves Precinct 2 seal project funding and budget actions
The City Council approved $2 500 from the City for a Precinct 2 seal routing project and approved multiple items including half ethyl gasoline trial, a $126 10x4 conference table purchase, wage review for department heads, a single minimum water bill for multi unit properties, new codes on second reading, and $150 000 in time warrants. The body rejected a proposed 14 inch water well drill without water rights and discussed outside firm reevaluation of city property. Executive session followed shortly after 6 p.m.
