Brewster County Memorial Hospital in Alpine, led by board chair Paul Vogt, imposes cash payment or insurance assignment on dismissal and moves accounts 90 days past due to collection. Promissory notes will be banked for hard-to-collect accounts and final notices go out within 60 days past due.
Alpine July 4 festival praised as the most successful yet by Dick Bowers president of the Alpine Jaycees. Winners included Kakai McElroy in babies, Amy Spitler in toddlers, Nancy Price in apple pie, Rita Dawkins in peanut brittle. Fort Bliss missile display and donkey rides drew crowds. officials from Fort Bliss Legion and local leaders lauded the event.
The mixed Scotch foursome at Alpine Country Club on July 4 was won by Bob Corkins Jimmy Pate Kathy Yakubanski and Robert Causey with 189. Second place 191 went to Thad Corkins Charlie Boreing Frank Yakubanski and Katherine Stucke. Third place 192 went to Mark Herring Doug Dorris Joy Holzman and Jack Williams. Ten foursomes entered. The Alpine Invitational is set for Aug 13 and 14.
Starr says the 1967 Alpine team is returning the nucleus of a fine ball club with 11 lettermen and several added junior varsity players, suggesting potential strength for the upcoming season.
Registration for the second six week session of summer school is scheduled Monday, July 11, at Sul Ross State College, according to registrar Glenn F. Davis. Classes begin Tuesday and the six week term ends August 19. Registration procedures are listed.
Alpine's City Council focused on improving the water system including a 500 foot deep Musquiz well project directed by Hydrologist Fd Reed, supply purchases of 8 inch pipe from Odessa, and a $1,000 advance to Nol land Shuler for drilling equipment. Final actions due next week as contracts and housing schedules are finalized. Three institutes and a university workshop led by Michael Frary were announced for the coming six weeks.
Results from the Alpine Cancer Club meet on Monday July 4 list winners in swimming and diving across age groups from 6-7 through 15, with top finishers including Hal Coats Julie Geeslin Melanie Arnold David Arnold Ashley Coats Mark Kay and Gary Kimball. Special beginner and underwater events honored K Corkins Janie Geeslin Janna McLaughlin H Hendryx with judges Gena Pate Alice Corkins and Jeff Graham. Sean Glasscock led the meet with Lifeguard Paul Pasqua assisting.
Alpine Chamber of Commerce requests dates of events in Alpine and Big Bend from Oct 1, 1966 to Mar 31, 1967 for the Texas Calendar of Events. Submissions due by July 18. information will be sent to the Texas Highway Department for inclusion in the next year’s calendar.
