J. Henderson holds the lucky number drawn at Granada Theatre Money Night on Tuesday and takes home a $7 cash award. The prize for next Tuesday night increases to $35.
The Big Bend-Davis Mountains chamber of commerce invites about thirty legislators and editors to a two day tour July 3 to 5. The itinerary includes a Alpine start to the Chisos Mountains with an overnight at COO camp, horseback canyon rides, a free barbecue, then Marfa luncheon and slides, then Ft Davis and a Davis Mountains State Park barbecue in the Indian village. Louise Berkeley notes strong interest and D E Colp pledges key lawmakers will attend.

A new slate of Highland Hereford Society directors was chosen at a Marfa meeting held last week. An officers’ meeting will occur day after tomorrow in connection with a general gathering of Highland Herefords, the Highland Hereford Association, and the Big Bend Davis Mountains chamber of commerce. A lunch at the Paisano hotel will discuss highways, Big Bend National Park, Highland Herefords, and regional development with invited members from area organizations.
Alpine appears on a 1200 city eligible list for federal buildings under a deficiency bill providing 58 million dollars for projects outside Washington. The House passed the bill. Senate consideration pending. Alpine’s past inquiry and assurances from the fourth assistant postmaster general suggest a building could be provided, with discretionary choices left to the Treasury and Post Office departments. Other local towns on the list include Marfa, McCamey, and Wink.
The celebrated Passion Play presented at Sul Bows College was cancelled this week with no reason given in advance notices. The company producing the play may bring it here at a later date, according to advance representatives.
Rain continues to fall in the Big Bend area with some counties reporting little moisture. A House bill by Rep. Thomason would authorize acquiring about 1.5 million acres for a national park spanning Brewster and Presidio counties with possible cross border cooperation with Mexico. Secretaries and officials advocate expanding the park concept to an international project including the Rio Grande region. Local rivers and canyons such as the Grand Canyon of the Santa Elena would be within the park area, alongside a state park in the Chison mountains. Visiting lawmakers will tour the area next week as park advocates press the plan toward reality.
The two millionth Ford V eight touring sedan will be displayed in Alpine tomorrow at 10 20 AM by Brewster County Motors. Delux model on its way to the San Diego International exposition, Ford officials say the milestone proves the growth of Fort built automobiles since the early days of the industry. The car will be shown in East Holland avenue showrooms.

Fort Davis notes the death of Fri day June 21 of Mrs W B Bloys wife of longtime missionary William B Bloys founder of the Bloys camp meeting. she helped establish local Sunday school and missionary groups and survived by seven children and siblings.

Monday Alpine Firemen beat Marfa 11 to 6 in a separate game, with a mixed Alpine Marfa clash also played the same night.
College sees faculty salary boosts and campus upgrades after regents meeting in Galveston. Plans include a $230,000 girls dormitory a $35,000 hospital a $5,000 swimming pool and $5,000 for materials to establish a biological center. Campus improvements cover cottages a lodge unit barbecue pits auditorium changes library renovations and bowling alley finalization.
Prances B. Sayre Jr son of Frans iy B. Sayre, assistant secretary in the Roosevelt era, and grandson of Woodrow Wilson, vacations on the O2 ranch south of Alpine with Robert Clarke of Connecticut. They are spending their summer outing at the ranch as guests of manager Henry T. Fletcher, who invited them.
Drilling near Alpine progresses slowly in hard fin formation at the G H Storey site and Green Valley south of Alpine with the drill down to 1700 feet. Work to resume on the Dodson Means test northeast of Alpine as a rotary rig arrives. Additional tests at Jones Duffield Dad Joiner near Jett Davis county and reports from Marathon area are awaited.
The body of five year old Philip Coggin, son of Mr and Mrs Gray Coggin of Royalty, was brought here for burial Sunday afternoon. He was killed when struck by an auto Friday afternoon while crossing into Adle town. The Coggin family plans to move here in September and had the body shipped here for burial.
