Pecos River Fish Die as Sulfur Flood Hits Basin
Reports from Hudspeth and surrounding counties describe mass fish die offs in the Pecos due to sulfur-rich waters likely from the Delaware mountains mixing with streams from Screwbean and Delaware rivers in New Mexico. A wide crack near Valentine suggests earthquake-linked ground movement may have affected waterways. The article also notes protests against Caballo dam plans, cantaloupe disputes in Pecos, ore shipments from Silver Eagle and renewed mining activity around Terlingua and Black Hill.
