Funeral Services Held Friday For Mrs Fierro
Funeral services were held at Our Lady of Peace church for Mercedes De La O Fierro 28 who died after a brief illness. Born in Alpine on August 8 1925 she lived here all her life and worked as a beautician at Elite Beauty Shop. Surviving are her husband Henry Fierro and daughter Sylvia both of Alpine her parents four brothers and a sister. Her brother Pedro serves in the U S armed forces in Germany.

Veteran County Surveyor H R Gardies Dies at 81
Harry Raper Gard, aged 81, longtime Brewster County surveyor and civil engineer, died at his College Hill home after about two months illness. Born July 8 1872 in Springfield Ohio he worked on Detroit bridge projects and pipelines from Oklahoma to the Gulf. He served multiple terms as county surveyor beginning 1931 with later service through 1950s and was a life member of his Methodist church.

Boys Camp Opens at Paisano in West Texas

Funeral Held Here For Pioneer Colored Woman
Funeral services were held at the Livingston Funeral-home chapel for Lois Myers Holland aged 48 who was killed when struck by a train near the Southern Pacific depot in Marfa. Rev. T. J. Hollin officiated and burial followed in the local cemetery. She was the daughter of Sam and Mary Myers pioneer Alpine residents and had worked as a cook and housekeeper on ranches in the Marfa area. Survivors include sister Alma Collins of Alpine and brother Isaiah Myers of California.

Permit To Sell Beer Denied After Hearing
A license to sell beer at the Circle W cafe on West Holland Ave was denied after hearings in County Judge Felix McGaughy’s court. About 70 petitioners protested, with more than a dozen questioned. applicant’s attorney is Alfred E. Creigh Jr. and the state was represented by County Attorney C. E. Patterson. The applicant gave notice of appeal to the district court.

Work Starts On Girl Scout Hut In Alpine

South Alpine Paving Adds Seal Coat and New Top Layer
Paul Carr of Monahans completed resurfacing about two miles of paving in South Alpine from State Highway 118 east to Elm Grove cemetery. Three blocks of new paving were laid on Solith street crossing the Alpine creek bridge. The country club parking area and several store lots were re surfaced. Alpine Pioneer Dick Leyva dies after long illness
Ricardo Dick Leyva, 71, longtime Alpine resident, died Sunday night after a lengthy illness. Born April 3, 1883 in Shafter, he moved to Alpine in 1904, worked at Alpine Mercantile, then in trucking until retirement seven years ago. He married Lionisa Cano in 1907 and is survived by his widow and 11 children in Alpine Fort Stockton and San Bernardino communities. Funeral at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with burial in local cemetery.

Alpine Man Dies Of Bullet Wound In North Alpine
Paschal Sam Nutt an 82 year old Alpine resident was found dead with a bullet wound in his head beside a vacant cottage near his home. The body was discovered by his wife and son Buster while returning from checking cattle. Nutt born in Bee County in 1871 moved to San Angelo at age eight. He married Daisy Smith in 1907 and lived in Lovington New Mexico before settling in Alpine in 1917 a lifelong rancher. Funeral at Livingston Chapel with Rev. Glenn Bales officiating burial Elm Grove Cemetery. Surviving are his widow son R L Buster another son J K in Marathon a daughter Mrs John Lamb of Dix ie Washington a brother K E Nutt of Lovington two granddaughters and three great granddaughters.
