District Judge C E Patterson named to the executive board of Bors Ranch near San Angelo at Tankersley. He has served as a director for two years and the board will meet in the Davis mountains area in August.
The $40 000 lodge at the Mitre Peak Girl Scout Camp was dedicated Sunday afternoon with ceremonies held both outside and inside the modern structure. R J Ream presented the key to three campers Terrie Beauchamp Frances Hunter and Phyllis ey. of Midland invocation by J M Waddell of Kermit. Mrs John F Camp of San Antonio spoke on the dedicatory. About 260 visitors from the council area toured the lodge which includes a dining room for 150, a lounge and office, and a contemporary kitchen. The native stone building blends with Fern Canyon and overlooks Mitre Peak named for the area.
Seven Alpine girls will attend Mitre Peak Girl Scout Camp this summer. Jane Davenport and Cheryl Rackley join the June 20 session, Mary Virginia Sims is scheduled for June 21 to July 4, Cecilia Hollis Roberta Shortt and Donna Burdett for July 6 to 18, Karen Brown and Beryl Ponton for July 19 to 25, and Becky Boyd Esther Wright and Linda Ceraldi for July 26 to Aug 1. Mr and Mrs Henry G Bilbo have returned from a two week visit to Mrs Bilbo's daughter in Red Bluff California.
Rio Grande Electric Cooperative gains a Rural Electrification Administration loan of 2.407 million dollars to build 1100 miles of distribution lines serving about 67 percent more customers. Funds cover system improvements and bond repayment, enabling irrigation pumps and new member outreach, with extensions planned in Brewster, Jeff Davis, Presidio, Crockett, Terrell, Pecos, Reeves, Hudspeth, El Paso and Culberson counties.
Lily Secretary Lee Cowell reports Alpine set an all time daily water use record on Tuesday June 16 with 834 gallons per minute from active pumps. Three new pumps will lift capacity to 1000 gallons per minute once installed, easing future demand despite hot weather. Nearby visitors include Mrs. Bessie Smith of Nashville and Mr. and Mrs. Harbin Marrable and their three children.
The Cowells buy the Herb Harlow residence at 1203 North 4th Street and the Harlows will occupy the Cowell home in Grover W. Uvalde until their new Carpenter Addition house is ready in about four weeks. County agent Frank Newsom will supervise a leadership camp in Brackettville June 23 to 24 with swimming and games. Terry D. Beckett of Alpine joins 60 Army ROTC cadets from Texas Tech reporting to Fort Hood June 20 for six weeks. Mr and Mrs H T Long of Carthage visited Alpine and Big Bend National Park. Long is cousin of Dick Rogers of Alpine and friend of E L and JW Frazer. Avora Owens, former Carthage resident, visits Memphis sister Mrs Joe T Davidson.
Lynn Rusk a Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. installer in Arlington Texas received the Vail Citation for saving his brother Carl Rusk after a December canyon accident during a hunting trip near Fort Davis. Lynn found Carl badly injured and bleeding, stopped the bleeding built a fire and fetched help. Carl survived after hospitalization in Alpine Brewster County Memorial Hospital.
Monte Fitch chief ranger at Big Bend National Park for two years is appointed superintendent of Organ Pipe National Monument. The Fitch family, including their four children, will leave Big Bend at month end. Fitch previously served at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in North Dakota and at Mesa Verde National Park and the Colorado National Monument.
Pvt Robert G Bass son of Mr and Mrs Obie W Bass Alpine arrived in Baumholder Germany and joined the 6th Infantry Division as a meteorological crewman in the division artillery Headquarters Battery He entered the Army last November and is a 1958 graduate of Alpine High School previously employed by Jack Freeland & Co.
Funeral service for Mrs. Nancy Colwell a former Brewster County resident was held at Livingston Funeral Home and burial followed in Elm Grove Cemetery. She died Monday in Deming New Mexico and had lived in Brewster County about 25 years. Survived by three sons Bart Colwell Bill of Mason Erwin of Washington state one daughter Mrs Bart Smith Alpine and five grandchildren Mrs T F Skevington Mrs James Kemp and Alan of Odessa.
