Plans Drawn For New Presbyterian Church Here
Plans for a new church building to replace the one destroyed by fire in April have been completed by Mauldin Lovett, San Angelo and Alpine architects. Rev. Fred Rogers, pastor, said the Wink building, 30 by 75 feet frame construction, will be moved here in sections to form a unit with a new native stone and stucco structure on the site. The move hinges on state highway permit approvals.

Good local rains spread across Highland country with showers from Marathon west to east and south toward Alpine. Ranches near Alpine reported up to one and a half inches. May rainfall totaled 1.65 inches, 0.47 inches below 1942 May, with year to date at 1.65 inches, 28 inches under last year’s first five months. A shower occurred Saturday night totaling 1/2 inch.

County Health Nurse To Close Office July First

Two aviation cadets died in a midair collision near the advanced flying school Sunday morning. James R. Ray of Fairfield and Joh W. Yeoman of Oakland were killed, while Paul J. Stable of Rightsville and Charles Yeoman of Detroit survived with injuries. Alpine FFA earned top state honors, selected as best chapter and advancing to nationals. Ralph Berkeley won the reporters contest. four members earned Lone Star Farmer degrees.

A total of about $110 was netted from the poppy sale in the county on May 29. The campaign committee praised local helpers including Mrs. Waldron of Alpine, Mrs. Frank Wedin and Mara thon helpers, Mrs. W. P. Hinson Study Butte, Mrs. Chas. Worthington at 248, and Mrs. A. J. The Alpine Boy Scouts conducted an overnight trip to Balmorhea State Park on Monday and Tuesday. Mr Peterson, the new Big Bend Scout executive from Marfa, accompanied by his family, joined Mr McGrew and the Scouters. The group enjoyed the outing and a future rise in interest among scouts of this age is expected if overnight trips continue.

Texas could gain the Big Bend National Park lands if Congress approves transferring $25,000 unspent from the Texas Centennial funds to the Texas State Parks board.
