Eight year old Barbara Lou Davis daughter of Jiggs and Mrs Davis Alpine won all around cowgirl honors at the Marfa Junior Rodeo. She earned 333 points including barrel racing and pole bending and received a hand tooled rope bucket and a silver belt buckle. Champion cowboy Paul Petska of Carlsbad New Mexico led with 559 points.

In Brewster County Crawford Martin defeated Franklin Spears in the Democratic runoff for attorney general. The final counts show Martin leading in Pets with 238 to 127 and 197 to 110 in other districts, while Spears led in absentee voting 8 to 6. Grass Fire Extinguished by Alpine Volunteers Near Railroad
