Fire Destroys Alpine Lumber Warehouse
Fire of undetermined origin ravaged a frame warehouse at Alpine Lumber on East Holland Avenue early Wednesday. The blaze enveloped lime cement and sheet rock stock, damaging most of the shed and forcing an alarm after a watchman spotted flames about 4 am. The shed burned to a total loss while stock damage estimates were not yet available, with partial insurance coverage noted.

Texas Mistletoe Is Shipped East
Barry Scobee profiles W. C. Brooks of Cisco who runs a Marfa airport caliche project and ships Texas mistletoe to New York dealers. Brooks has sold 22 tons last November and December at six cents a pound, packing with his own cartons and paying gatherers two cents per pound. The mistletoe is gathered from mesquite and oak trees, with shipments via railway platforms and express freight.

Brewster County Runoff On August 22 to Involve One Contest
Brewster county primary produced about 1080 votes, roughly 200 above pre election estimates and about 160 behind the 1940 count. The runoff August 22 will include a single contest in Precinct 2 for commissioner where H C Hernandez led with 82 votes and Frank Mangum had 49, while Earl Clark beat H B Schrier for county commissioner at Marathon and other statewide results were reported.

War Is Stolen From Auto Firm's Used Car Lot Here
A 1937 Studebaker Dictator coupe was stolen from Casner Motor Co. used car lot here sometime last Friday or Saturday night, reported early this week. The car had five nearly new white sidewall tires, a radio, and a heater. Authorities believe the gate bar was left unlocked the night of the theft.

Extractor Plant at Chisos Burns in Brewster County
One of two extractor plants at the Chisos quicksilver mines in Brewster County burned early last Friday morning. The plant, erected 38 years ago, was still in operation. The loss won't halt mine production, as a second plant on site can be used. Sheriff Clarence Hord and officers investigate possible incendiarism.
