War Clinic Paisano Meeting Ends Early Amid War Conditions

Approximately 125 Alpine and Fort Davis residents attended a war clinic at the court house to discuss area problems from the flying school and military setup. The Paisano Baptist encampment near Alpine was closed early due to war conditions, with $4,800 pledged or paid to cover expenses and improvements for next year.

Pine High principal leaves for naval instructor post

E. Phillips, principal of Alpine High School for five years, departed Tuesday to report to a naval training school in Chicago. He travels with Mrs. Phillips to Dallas where she will return home soon. Supt. Bankhead said the board has no statement on a successor at this time.

KCMO Line to Pacific Nears Completion in Nine Months

The Kansas City Mexico and Orient railroad plans a 150 mile Sierra Madre link to connect Topolobampo to the Pacific with a nine month timeline. Over 70 000 ties already laid along the right of way as the spur reaches Sanchez Chihuahua state. The line will create a through route from Mexico west coast to the U S frontier and link Pacific and interior networks. The P&SF connects to Presidio and extends into Oklahoma Kansas and Missouri. Government bonds and stamps seen as safest investments.

County Goes Highland Area Over Top In Bond Sales

Brewster county surpassed its bond and stamp sales July quota by about 750 dollars, with a final total of 28,846.45. County chairman G. W. Baines credited citizen cooperation and noted stamps accounted for 1,693.85 of the amount, bond sales the rest. August quota had not yet been set. moisture in the Big Bend region produced variable rainfall, Alpine to Marathon and beyond, with Alpine logging 0.95 inches for the period.

OldTimers Dance At Courthouse Promises Classic and Modern Steps

An old-timers dance is scheduled for tomorrow night at the courthouse with music by The Serenaders. The event invites all interested to attend and enjoy both modern and old-time dancing.

National Park Service Tour Of The Big Bend This Week

A National Park Service party plus officials from the Big Bend Land Department and Tex State Parks board left Tuesday for an inspection tour of the Big Bend National Park area in southern Brewster County. Vaccination Certificate Required for Alpine Students 1942-43

Alpine Independent School District will require every entering student to present a smallpox vaccination certificate for the 1942 43 term. In cooperation with the County Health Unit and the PTA the board urged prompt compliance to prevent epidemics during the war. School starts September 7 and every child should have the certificate on that date to avoid missing days.

Brewster Men Report for Fort Bliss Training Camp

Brewster county men inducted into the army July 19 with two weeks furlough have returned to Fort Bliss El Paso to begin training. All those reported and examined last month were accepted except two. Names from Marathon Terlingua Alpine Titus County and others listed transferred for training.

County Democrats Endorse Allred at Local Convention

A county Democratic convention here endorsed Allred as a candidate. A State Public Health representative urged full time sanitarians, a sanitary district for Alpine, enforced food laws, and strict oversight of food handling establishments amid 150 syphilis cases and 60 untreated cases. Recommendations include sewer connections, pit toilets rehabilitation, and uniform garbage collection with a town survey to target remedies.

Brewster County Democrats at their county convention pledge wholehearted devotion to elect James V. Allred to the United States senate for a six year term. They endorse the present national administration and Governor Coke R. Stevenson, with delegates seated for state and district conventions. Delegates and officers, including Dr. J.B. Wright as president, are named, and resolutions praise courage, leadership, and Texan pride while urging unity and support for Allred and the administration.

No Games Scheduled at Legion Hut This Week

Legion Hut has no events on August 8 due to conflicts with other activities. Games are planned for Saturday, August 15, to support the Army Relief fund. PTA To Hear Immunization Lecture By El Paso Specialist

Alpine Parent-Teacher association executive board met July 20 with Mrs. E C Coleman to discuss war activities statewide. Dr Matt Rawlings of El Paso will speak on immunization August 25 at 4 pm in Alpine High School auditorium, and members are urged to attend. The association thanks Big Bend Medical Society for arranging the talk.
