Regular Enrollments Grow at Sul Ross College
Sun Ross College reports 612 regular students enrolled by noon Saturday July 22 with additional registrants expected. Also on campus are 76 music students for a clinic, 28 for a coaching clinic, and 400 to 500 teachers for the 13th Annual Reading Conference on July 30. The Student Council Workshop will enroll 175 to 200 students starting August 6 and a band clinic runs August 21 to September 1 after summer school ends.

The 41st Paisano Baptist Encampment starts Monday July 31 between Alpine and Marfa with 1500 to 2000 attendees. Last year 900 stayed on site and 1800 attended tabernacle services. The 13th Annual Sul Ross Reading Conference runs July 30 to August 4 sponsored by the Texas Association for the Improvement of and Sul Ross State College. About 300 attendees will hear Dr. Robert Carlsen Dr. Faye Bumpass and Dr. Olive Wheeler with lectures, workshops, a barbecue and a Shakespeare production. Activities include a Big Bend National Park tour and daily six hour sessions in reading fields. TAIR officers and an Area Planning Committee coordinate events with Dean Bevington Reed Dr. Wally Lou Johnson Prof. W. E. Willims and Dr. Elton Miles among organizers.

Hundreds of West Texans are expected for the Labor Day Defense Program and Carnival in Alpine at Jackson Field on Sept 4.
