The House approved Congressman J T Rutherford's measure to create Old Fort Davis in Jeff Davis County as a National Historic Site. The National Parks Service will acquire 460 acres, renovate buildings, and maintain the fort long term.

Mrs Urquidez Buried Here in Alpine
Mrs. Merced Uranga Urquidez a lifelong Alpine resident died Sunday July 16. Funeral services were held Tuesday July 18 at Our Lady of Peace Church with burial in the local cemetery. She was born October 22 1892 in Presidio County and moved to Alpine in 1910. She married Liborio Urquidez in 1914. Survived by husband five sons four daughters forty one grandchildren six great grandchildren and many relatives from Alpine Midland Big Lake Sanderson San Jose Calif and other areas.

Rains over four days in Alpine, Wednesday to Saturday, totaled 2.35 inches per The Avalanche records. The peak fell 1.27 inches on Wednesday, with 0.04 on Thursday, 0.18 on Friday, and 0.86 on Saturday. An extra 0.16 inches on July 3 lifted July total to 2.51 inches, while July last year logged 4.71 inches. rains were localized and moisture is needed in many areas.
