Internationals Beat Fort Stockton 7-4 in Weekend Clash

The Internationals won their seventh straight game by defeating the Ft. Stockton Red Sox 7 to 4 on Sunday. Jaime Gonzalez logged multiple hits for the Red Sox as Elisio Hernandez pitched a complete game for the Internationals, who tied the game in the fourth and pulled away with three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. Gonzalez led the Internationals with four hits, while Pena and Gonzalez were key for Fort Stockton.

July Rain Totals 3.65 Inches in Big Bend Region

Rains from July 3 to July 14 brought 3.65 inches of moisture to the Big Bend and Davis Mountains area. Avalanche records show 1.81 inches on July 3, 0.62 on July 10, and 0.66 on July 14, with Alpine noted as drier than western Pecos counties. Historical records compare this month to prior years, noting 1911 as a peak year with 31.45 inches nationally and drought impacts since 1951.

City Audit Shows Good Condition and Declining Debt

Mayor W E Lockhart announced the city audit for Alpine seat 860 is complete with a 10 year comparison by Kenneth Otto. The Avalon reports revenue of 217 199 vs expenses 151 564, a positive balance of 65 635, and a reduction in short term warrants from 55 000 to 25 000. The issue also includes a funds statement for the Water System Improvement Bond Issue of May 1 1959 and notes remaining bond funds of 3 20.

Campuses Host Senior Conference With 133 Attendees

One hundred eighteen high school students and 15 counselors attend a senior conference on the Sul Ross State College campus sponsored by the Presbytery of the Southwest. It marks the third summer of the gathering with housing in Marquis Hall and workshops in the Fine Arts Building Little Theater.

Death Takes Mrs Davidson Pioneer ranch woman of Brewster and Jeff Davis Counties

Mrs Charles Edward Davidson a Brewster and Jeff Davis Counties rancher from Alpine died Monday after a long illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Alpine Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Baird officiating. Burial followed at Elm Grove Cemetery. She was born Azile Swan June 27, 1886 in Leesville Texas and married Charles Davidson in 1906. Survived by husband two sons Frank and Edward three sisters and seven grandchildren. Out of town relatives attended the funeral.

Paisano Baptist Assembly Opens 40th Meeting Monday

Paisano Baptist Encampment near Paisano Peak opens its 40th annual gathering Monday, July 25, lasting through July 31. The event traces to 1916 with early prayer services, resumed after World War I, and has since grown into a permanent camp with extensive facilities and the Crawford Mitchell Tabernacle seating 4,000.

Western Union Proposes Alpine Agency Plan

A.D. Henson of Abilene district manager says Western Union will file for an Alpine agency plan to resubmit the application to the Federal Communications Commission. The plan would let Art, operator of the Alpine Furniture Exchange next door, handle telegraphic money orders and the same services once offered by the office. The prior application was withdrawn due to Alpine Chamber of Commerce and employee union opposition.

Newell Sponsors 3 Sales Meetings in West Texas

Three dinner meetings to promote Reliable batteries in the Trans-Pecos area were held this week under Newell Distributing Co sponsorship. The first session was at the Holland Hotel Alpine Monday night, the second at Van Horn Tuesday, and the third in Pecos last night. E. E. Eckert of San Antonio, VP of Reliable Battery Co., and Dick Jones, sales manager, led the sessions with Mrs Eckert accompanying her husband to West Texas.

Red Cross Appeal Seeks Baby and Child Care Donations

Brewster County residents are urged to donate infant and child care items for the Red Cross Baby and Child Care course. Needed are towels, blankets, crib sheets, clothing, nursing bottles, diapers, baths, and cleaning supplies. Call 7488 for Mrs. Mayron Shiels to contribute. Also noted are travels of Dr and Mrs Arvel Penton and families visiting from California and San Antonio with weekend visits and business trips to El Paso.
