Meriwether Water Delivery Points Located Citywide

The City agrees to provide Meriwether water at up to four delivery points on the water system, within or outside City limits, and to furnish water at prevailing rates. The City may also dig or sink a water well on land of its choosing to supply additional quantities.

Alpine Board Hires Four Teachers for Next Year

Alpine School Board approved contracts for four new teachers: Carolyn Spencer to replace J C Walker in Central 5th grade, Faye Davis to replace Natalie Gunter in high school girls PE, Mary Ola Kay to replace Johnnie Neely in Central 2nd grade, Shirley Stephenson to replace Dorothy Perryman in Central girls PE. Mrs Powell, a drama teacher whose students won a state championship last year, will teach in Odessa schools next year.

Alpine hail damage spurs roof work and insurance payouts

Alpine residents reported about 1,000 in insurance settlements after a severe last month hailstorm. Many homeowners hire roofing crews to replace damaged roofs while some buy new roofs below claim value. Owners accept cash for damaged cars to avoid dent out values. some travel to nearby Fort Stockton and Ruidosa for scenic tours.

Turner Will Present Piano Recital Tonight

Johnny Turner, a Cisco senior, will perform a two piano recital at 8 p.m. in Sul Ross College main auditorium. The program includes contemporary and standard two piano works, plus Latin American pieces. Wayne Bresett assists at the second piano. Turner invites the public to attend.

Life Saving Course to Begin on July 27

A three week Red Cross senior life saving course starts 5 20 pm on Monday July 27 with Elbert Echols and Shirley Stevenson as instructors. Daily one hour sessions run at that time. Officials puzzled by Alpine blacklisting by Mexico

Mexican officials have not explained why Alpine Texas was placed on a blacklist as other Texas towns including Marfa Lubbock and Seguin were likewise listed. Officials say only Washington can provide the reason while Mexican authorities report a forwarded investigation.

Dental health workshop opens at Sul Ross with lectures

A dentist health education program is set for July 23 to 25 at Sul Ross State College with lectures by Gertrude Linn and others. The event runs daily in Room 10 of the Big Bend Museum from 9 to 11 45 am and 1 15 to 4 pm and is open to the public. A barbecue will follow at Prude Ranch north of Fort Davis.

Bailey Heads Legion Post in Big Bend Installations

Henry Bailey will be installed as commander of Big Bend Post No 79 American Legion in joint ceremonies with Auxiliary officers.
