Long-Time Post Office Worker Cecil Duncan Taken By Death

Francis Cecil Duncan World War I veteran and Alpine post office employee died in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Big Spring after a month's illness. He would have been 64 Aug. 4. Funeral services were held in the First Christian Church with Masonic rites at Elm Grove Cemetery. Survived by widow, one daughter, three sons, three brothers, two sisters, and 10 grandchildren. Duncan served in France with the 7th U. S. Army Engineers and later worked for the Katy Railroad, Orient Railroad, and National Park Service before joining the Alpine post office Nov. 22, 1937. He was active in the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. (Names of attendees and relatives listed.)

350 Attend Music Camp in Texas Churches

Three hundred fifty attendees from 27 Baptist churches across Texas join Paisano Music Camp led by W F Fordethase to end with concerts this Friday. Tonight 8 p m the tabernacle hosts a special program with a Mendelssohn Hymn of Praise excerpt. Directors include Euell Porter Baylor Ed Wittner First Baptist Lamesa and Harlan Hall Odessa. Gibbens Family Moves Back To Alpine

Mr and Mrs Ernest Gibbens Jr and their three sons Scottie Johnnie and Gene have moved from Montgomery Alabama back to Alpine. Mr Gibbens takes over management of the Sul Ross Gulf Service Station in the Bill Cotter house location.

Alpine seeks budget, civil defense director named

John Stuckwish of Brewster County Memorial Hospital was named Civil Defense director by unanimous council vote. Alpine School Board approved new typewriters and maintenance contract, to audit 1959 60 expenditures, set school calendar opening, and planned a 1960 61 budget review with a per capita state allocation and planned audits of athletic and general insurance details.

Little League Schedule Confusion at Legion Stadium

Oil News From Mid-American and Hunt Oil Drilling Updates

Mid-American Minerals Co. well 1.43 Meriwether eight miles northwest of Alpine drilled to 870 feet with casing set at 27 feet after Hallitunion cement. A cable tool test hit a large crevice and substantial water at 734 feet. In Pecos County near Hovey, Hunt Oil Co. No. 1 Elsinore was drilling below 7400 feet with casing at 4126 feet.
