Five Danish Cadets To Visit Alpine For July 27

Five exchange cadets from Denmark will visit Alpine July 27 and 28 as guests of Alpine cadets of the Big Bend Squadron CAP. They will stay with local hosts, tour ranches, see Hereford cattle and cowboys, and attend a Western chuck wagon dinner and junior rodeo at Sul Ross State College arena.

Cemetery Meet Set

The Alpine Cemetery Association will hold an important meeting at the Chamber of Commerce at 7 30 p m on Tuesday July 16 Every lot owner is urged to attend as decisions on the memorial fence and opening of the new section will be discussed.

Kay Heads Local Lodge Installation of Officers

Alpine Lodge No. 766 AFCAM held installation of officers on July 1 with T. Grant Woodward as installing officer and Elmer R. Hudson as marshal. New officers include De Marvin C. Kay worshipful master, L. D. Harris senior warden, W. L. Barber junior warden, Guy B. Crawford treasurer, Vernon Boysen secretary, Ted G. Gray senior deacon, R. C. St Clair junior deacon, James A. Boyd tilers, Lamar Kay senior steward, Herschell L. Walker junior steward and Frank G. Snow chaplain. Mrs. K. Anderson of San Marcos is visiting.

J M Graham laid to rest in Marfa and Brewster County

Joseph Martin Graham a 91 year old Big Bend rancher died July 4 in Brewster County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held at First Methodist Church Marfa with Masonic rites in the Marfa Cemetery. He was born June 11 1872 in Files Valley and married Molly Stanley in 1898. He helped settle the Big Bend area, retired in 1932, and was active in the Sheep and Goat Raisers and Cattlemen associations. Surviving: wife Molly, sons Jeff Alpine and Stanley Monahans, 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren.

Wood family visit to Elinor Ray ends with California posting

Col and Mrs W H Wood and their six children arrived in the area yesterday to visit Mrs Wood's father Frank O Ray and Mrs Ray. They are en route to Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino California where Col Wood will be stationed Mrs Wood is formerly Elinor Ray.

Alpine Voters to Decide Nonprofit Gas Plan Referendum

Alpine residents will vote July 16 on creating a nonprofit gas corporation with Marfa to study bringing natural gas to Alpine. The nonbinding straw vote seeks opinions on feasibility and potential savings, with no obligation on the city or residents.

Marfa Forms Gas Corp to Study Regional Feasibility

The City of Marfa forms the Marfa Municipal Gas Corporation to study bringing natural gas to Marfa Alpine and Fort Davis. The letter from D S Peevey urges Alpine to join, stressing cheaper fuel with no higher taxes if feasible and calls for equal board representation and rapid, informed study.

Alpine Board Awards Milk Contract and Staff Changes

Price’s Creameries received the school milk contract after Alpine School Board’s Tuesday meeting with bids 0.515 and 0.525. Trustees accepted Doris J. Morrow’s resignation and approved a 1963-64 student and athletic insurance program to Lawrence Bruckman Co. Also noted were travel plans for Hord family and regional music committee appointment for Jack A. Frost.
