Mayor on Vacation Heads to Two Week Trip

The Office of Price Administration announced a two pound sugar bonus for very ration card holders valid July 10 to August 22. Householders can obtain the dividend by showing Ration Stamp No 7. Marathon Fourth of July at Old Fort Pena a big success
Marathon celebrated the Fourth of July at Old Ft. Pena now Brewster County park with improvements. About 1500 people attended the barbecue and festivities. A goat roping occurred in the afternoon and Friday and Saturday dances drew large crowds. About 47 soldiers are stationed at Ft. Pena.

Brewster county reports about 85 000 pounds of scrap rubber, roughly 14 pounds per person for its 6 000 residents, exceeding national per capitas. Acute housing crunch for defense workers in Alpine
The Alpine housing crisis worsens as nearly all listed houses and apartments are rented while workers arrive for defense projects. Marfa reports no vacant homes and women clerical staff face acute shortages in both towns.
