At the annual Alpine Cemetery Association meeting held at city hall last week officers were re elected. The group outlined a three inch pipeline project from the west well to the east side and from the center to the north gate along with an electric pump at the east well. Dues remain three dollars for a half lot five dollars for a full lot and eight dollars for a grass lot with requests for additional donations. Mrs King Terry serves as secretary treasurer and Mrs Zeb Decie is president. Owners are urged to check hydrants after watering and ensure they are shut off.

Alpine juniors took second in Marfa by defeating Anderson School of Fort Davis 27 to 19 with Coach Travis Cook guiding the squad. Nine players under 15 on May 1 comprised the high school junior squad.
Marathon High school routed Alpine Bucks 62-15 in a conference basketball game played in the neighboring town. Mather led Marathon with 27 points while Rutledge and McKinney starred. Marathon volleyball beat Alpine two of three with wins 15-7 and 15-3, Alpine taking 15-6. Alpine Centennial Juniors won against Marathon Juniors.
The Alpine city commission adopts a four zone zoning plan residential commercial industry warehouse and storage yards with undesignated areas. No building shall be erected altered moved or relocated except under conformity with district regulations shown on the official zoning map on file at the city office. Applications for building permits must be made to the city engineer before operations begin.
A public notice sets January 31 as the final date to pay the poll tax. It warns assessees to meet the deadline to avoid penalties and potential voting restrictions.
The Alpine area endured a severe cold snap with Sul Ross college recording zero degrees Wednesday night and five above Tuesday. A dry snow accumulation of 1.5 inches fell Tuesday with 0.07 inches moisture, roads were slick, minor crashes occurred, and livestock were at risk from the cold. Hotels and tourist courts stayed full despite the freeze.
Alpine VFW asks Alpine Chamber of Commerce and local citizens to pause 45 minutes around funeral times to honor all returning servicemen with full U S Army honors. The plea cites Lt. Juarez as the first and asks broad town turnout for every fallen veteran, urging support across Legion and VFW.
Sul Ross college Animal Husbandry department will be represented at the Fort Worth Fat Stock show Monday February 2 by a five member livestock judging team and two alternates chosen from the 75 freshmen. The team consists of G H Harfst Ernest Teague Gene Newman Ralph Hines and John K Finegan with Teague and Finegan as alternates. The five entered the livestock judging contest and departed yesterday for Fort Worth.
Dr. Ross Maxwell, superintendent of Big Bend National Park, presents a Friday January 30 lecture at 7 30 p m in Sul Ross auditorium. Maxwell is a noted supporter of the Sul Ross geological program and has conducted extensive work in the Big Bend area.
Del Rio merchant and farmer Charles B. Moore declares his bid for the 29th senatorial district seat. He would succeed H L Winfield who will not seek re election. Moore cites service in the Texas House and wartime Army Air Corps intelligence work and plans a vigorous campaign via press radio and public addresses.
A partial list shows contributors to the booster fund with amounts paid or pledged for the year. Funds from the rodeo and contributions support boys in Sul Ross athletic activities, with additional donor names to be published next week.
The 4th annual Big Bend Livestock Show set for Alpine at Koker Field in February 2021 will feature more than 250 head of livestock with an $800 premium list. H L Kokernot Jr. and 4-H FFA members from Brewster and Jeff Davis counties will exhibit 125 fat lambs 30 baby beeves 75 colts and 20 registered Hereford heifers. Judges include H A Fitzhugh for steers cattle and three horse show judges with George Mills guiding the lambs. An auction sale follows judging with a strong sales committee backing bidders from the region.
