Alpine Youth Wins Grand Champion Lamb at Southwestern Exposition
Billy Mills, president of the Alpine FFA, exhibited the grand champion fat lamb in the Junior division at the 1948 Southwestern Exposition and Fat Stock show in Fort Worth. The lamb, fed by Mills and sired by a buck owned by the Alpine FFA, earned reserve champion overall after competing against 44 open-class lambs. Mills, son of Mrs. H. M. Mills of Alpine, has long shown lambs in local and state events with praise from E. L. Tiner, Alpine VA teacher. Also noted, Sul Ross college livestock judging team placed third in state contests, led by Professor A. J. Bierschwabe.

Alpine Recital Delights Crowd With Two Singers Of Note
Tomiko Kanasawa and Gab or Carelli presented a three part program at Sul Ross auditorium drawing an enthusiastic Alpine audience despite unusually cold weather. The pair offered scenes from Verdi La Traviata and Puccini Madame Butterfly in costumes, followed by songs and then duets from Romberg Kern and Herbert. Carelli led with sparkling delivery and vivid crescendos while Kanasawa offered clean diction and refined tone though with cautious expression. Aaron Leifer accompanied with balanced support.
