Changes in 3A program explained for 1941
J A Doak AAA field representative outlined changes and additions to the 1941 AAA range program for West Texas ranchers at the District Six South meeting. He cited erosion prevention, grass restoration, reseeding, contouring, terraces, tanks, and elimination of mesquite as key practices, noting the past year as highly successful. Annual CC Meeting Set Next Monday at Holland Hotel

Marfa Man Is Appointed Judge of 83rd District
Hunter Metcalfe, longtime Marfa attorney, sworn in as judge of the 83rd Judicial District. He presides the January term in Fort Davis after being named by Governor W. Lee O'Daniel to fill the unexpired Sutton term through December 31, 1942. The district includes Presidio, Jeff Davis, Brewster, Upton, Reagan, and Pecos counties. Metcalfe, a Williamson County native born October 19, 1887, moved to the Highland area in 1917 and earlier studied at Southwestern University. He previously served as a principal and football coach in Orange.

Alpine High and Marfa High played a split basketball doubleheader at Sul Ross gymnasium last Friday. Alpine lost the first game 21 to 8 but won the second 26 to 3, with first-stringers in the opener and reserves in the closer. About 200 fans attended.

Prominent Ranchman McCutcheon Killed Near Fort Davis
Willis W. McCutcheon Sr., a 45 year cattleman and ranch owner in Jeff Davis County, died when his car plunged over embankment eight miles north of Fort Davis. After a late evening call, wife sent two ranch hands to check on him. they found the wreck and his body. The car slid 150 feet over boulders, windshield broken, watch stopped at 6 50.

Rains Bring Bright Outlook in Alpine and Davis Mountains
Heavy soaking rains in the Davis mountains and Big Bend area boost moisture totals for January. Alpine reports 1.04 inches for January from slow weekend rains, with HL Robertson & Son ranch near Alpine recording about 1.5 inches since Jan 1.
