The Brewster county chamber of commerce holds its annual meeting at the Tolland hotel this evening at 7 30 with a year’s financial report to be read and officers to be elected. Reservations for the banquet are being taken and citizens are urged to attend and participate.

Lobos Divide Pair With ACC Wildcats

Sul Ross Lobos split a two game series against Abilene Christian College and ACC Wildcats. The team lost the first game 26 19 then won the second 11 30 in a high scoring double header. Coach Graves plans future trips and games this season with Tech and Daniel Baker.

Rules At Alpine Cemetery Association Meeting

The Alpine Cemetery Association met at the Chamber of Commerce offices Monday afternoon. They discussed rules for planting trees evergreens and grass and for curb regulation. The group plans to vote on these rules at the second Monday in February. Reporter Alberto Varito of Naples required an ear amputation after a bee sting injury.

Picture Slides From Mexico To Be Shown Next Week

About 300 color slides of cathedrals urns and sites around Mexico City will be shown at the Baptist church next Thursday evening January 23 at 7 20. Photographer W D Smithers and Dr Fricke organized the trip producing 1300 pictures in total with many destined for Germany. No admission charge and the public is invited.

Demonstration Club For Mexicans Formed

A Mexican home demonstration club formed at Madero ward school with Jesusita Anchez elected president and Julia Chavaria as secretary. Thirty women and girls attended. Lise Fontilla Johnson, the home demonstration agent, demonstrated skirt patterns. Members will make skirts from foundation patterns and present them for check. Meetings set for twice monthly.

Alpine Post Office Receipts Rise in 1935 Figures

Alpine post office reports $16,918.28 in 1935 receipts, up $1,296.64 from 1934's $15,621.64. The rise, just over eight percent, reflects stamp sales, box rents, and second class mailing. Postmaster Annie K Turney notes Alpine is a second class, second grade office among seven grades. Quarterly comparisons for 1994 and 1935 follow.

Brass cannon of Civil War fame sought near Fort Davis

Fort Davis correspondent recounts a tale from 1864 when Confederate Shelby's brigade retreated through Fort Quitman and Limpia. Two brass cannon were buried near Limpia and may emerge when floodwaters reveal them again. Locals hope to recover and display the relics in Fort Davis plaza for the Centennial.

No Arrests In Alpine Burgh Vandalism Case

No arrests have been made in connection with the entry of the college and two city school buildings in Alpine where vandals caused damage worth several hundred dollars last week. They broke doors and drawers and caused other damage in all three buildings. Items valued at about 150 dollars were stolen from the home of Mr Frown, junior high school janitor, the same evening. County officers, the county patrol, and Ranger Pete Crawford continue to investigate.

A general committee on arrangements for the 39th President s Ball will consist of heads of city organizations. Campbell Barker will be general chairman, appointed by Mayor T Moody. El Paso officials advised this week that foreclosures on a large number of delinquent loans are anticipated, indicating widespread action by the Home Owners Loan Corporation in Alpine.

Will of late cafe resident of Alpine surfaces in court case

The long messy will dispute centers on James a former Alpine resident and cattle ranch owner who died at a presumed age of around 90. He allegedly deeded ranch and livestock to Eugenia Henderson while under claims of undue influence involving her husband foreman Robert Henderson. The case traces back to a 1932 purchase and a 1931 hotel stay in Corpus Christi with further ties to Roswell New Mexico and a county court remand to Western Texas district court.
