Courthouse and Jail Rehabilitation Set to Start
Final approval has been given for rehabilitation of the county courthouse and jail with WPA funds. Work begins on the 29th, after bids opened two months ago. R. W. Peters of Alpine was the successful bidder. Estimated cost about 6000 dollars, including a 1600 dollar WPA grant, with the rest funded by county warrants. Both buildings will be overhauled, interior and exterior replastered and repainted. jail walls to be reinforced with welded steel bars to prevent escapes.

Alpine Folks Escape Serious Injury In Auto Cattle Crash
Five Alpine residents escaped serious injury when their car hit a herd of cattle on highway 90 east of Marathon at dusk New Year's day. The occupants were Milton Gilmer and his wife with a child, Milburn Taylor, Jack Brandon, and Mrs Gilmer's brother. Three cattle died on impact, two were badly wounded and later shot. The car was badly damaged. the only injuries were minor cuts and bruises to Mr and Mrs Gilmer. A separate note mentions Colorado University students facing Sunday School obligations for drinking.
