Alpine Bucks Place Sixth In Big Lake Tournament
Alpine High reports the Alpine Bucks finished sixth among 24 schools at a Big Lake tournament. They travel to Seminole Friday for their first district game. Bain Ward boasts Elephant the bull named grand champion at the Phoenix Stock Show. Alpine will crown its grand champion at the Big Bend Wool and Mohair show this Saturday. A stock-show dance follows at the hotel ballroom with Cort Es corts providing music. admission $2 a couple or $1.50 for a stag. Mary Miller and Pat Ray earned twirling awards at a Odessa contest last Monday. March of Dimes week observed at Alpine High with Student Council dimes cards and a film assembly. The tennis team benefits from sunny weather with Linda Kay and Harriet Carpenter set for senior girls doubles under coach Mr. Roark.

Big Bend ranch men shine at Arizona Livestock Show
Ranchmen from Marfa Alpine Marathon and nearby Big Bend areas dominated the Arizona National Livestock Show in Phoenix. Mary Martha Gearhart won first in junior and open steer shows. Kimball Ranch captured medium weight wins and was named reserve champions. Other placings included Coffield Gearhart eighth lightweights and George Jones second in medium weights. A grand champion Charolaise bull calf named Elephant weighed 1300 pounds. Brewster County Live stock Show set for Saturday. locals report strong turnout and interest.
