Seventh Big Bend Livestock Show Set for Feb 10
The seventh annual Big Bend Livestock Show will be held Saturday Feb 10 with 208 lambs and 16 baby beefs on display and a ranchmen's exhibit. The boys auction sale starts at 2 30 p m led by auctioneer Don Estes. The event benefits FFA and 4H youths and attracts many spectators from the area.

A 27 year old Valentine school teacher was named county judge of Jeff Davis county. Howard Bell Jr. was selected by the commissioners after reviewing six applicants. He will take office immediately and has taught mathematics and science at Valentine High School. He is not married. Bell succeeds Dr. C. E. Eaton, whose death created the vacancy.

J W Dollanite Marta veteranarian received a broken leg Monday afternoon while inspecting the herd of the Twin Sisters dairy west of Alpine. He was struck by a calf and knocked to the ground suffering two bone fractures below the knee. He was treated at a local scene and later moved by ambulance to El Paso for further check up.

Line Will Serve New Housing In Eastern Suburbs
The city commission approved a project costing 11 736 43 with city and college participation to install lift station and pump and lay 1836 feet of eight inch pipe and 1720 feet of four inch pipe. A pump will lift sewage 23 feet to connect with main lines as area gains five college housing units and additional residences. Work starts within 10 days and includes 22 new three bedroom apartments opposite the college barn formerly provided by the airfield. A new well location is undecided, with options between the golf course and ball park or between the oak estate well and Santa Fe station. Micou estate well casing is set and drilling continues at about 200 feet. Further water supply potential from the Micou site is anticipated.

First Semester Ends for Alpine Schools January 16
The first semester of the 1950-31 school session ends Tuesday January 16 with mid term exams set for Wednesday Thursday and Friday. Friday is for registration and checking in and out for text books. Principal James Crawford notes only a few high school students need schedule changes and cites enrollment drop from 213 to 20. Funeral Services Held Here Last Saturday For Mrs. Bertha Daugherty
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church for Mrs. Bertha Carter Daugherty 56 who died suddenly from a heart attack last Tuesday while visiting her daughter in Wichita Falls. Born January 3, 1884, she moved with her family to Carrizo Springs in 1904 and later to Sanderson then Alpine where the family resided for years before moving in 1946 to a stock farm nearby.
