Ranchers and 4H members from Big Bend-Davis Mountains area opened the 1959 stock show season with entries at the Arizona National in Phoenix and the Sand Hills Show in Odessa. Exhibits include Hereford feeder calves from Kimball Jones Catto Gage Bill Donnell and Ben Gearhart, Charellaise by Gilmer Morriss and Brooks Acton, and participants from Alpine Fort Davis and Brewster Jeff Davis 4H and FFA groups.
Funeral services for C. W. White brother of Hugh White of Alpine were held in Colorado Springs on December 29 after an elk hunting accident six weeks prior. Hugh White attended with Mrs. Edgar J. Marston and sister Mrs. J. P. Rodney. Alpine prepares a third grade program by Fern Young with a 11 15 time on KVLF radio.
The Trans-Texas Airways hearing on continuing service to Alpine Marfa and nearby communities is postponed to Monday January 19 in Dallas. Mayor W E Lockhart and Chamber president Paul Forchheimer received notice this week. Commissioner Glenn Burgess will attend from Alpine, flying in on a TTA plane. The agency examiner is Thomas Wrenn, and other representatives are to be named. The TTA annual meeting also falls on January 19.
Dividends were issued by the Marfa Production Credit Association for the first time under private ownership at a dinner meeting in Marfa. Ranchers of the Big Bend Davis Mountains country took over the association from the government several years ago.
