Farewell for Juan de G Seda in Boquillas and Alpine
A long procession accompanied Juan de G Seda to the cemetery for interment. Friends from Alpine and Marathon and many Americans and Mexicans attended in honor of a man described as kind and tolerant who ran a Boquillas store and eatery with his wife Chata. He was born in Sabinas Hidalgo and would have turned 68 in January. He moved to Boquillas in 1880, then crossed to the American side in 1895, and died in Alpine on December 24, buried Christmas Day. The piece recalls his hospitality and the festive Christmas gathering hosted by Louie Ritchey and friends, including musician Clinton Ritchey and Janie Bless, with memories of his adopted children Flora Cortes, Manuel, Jaime, and China.
