Turkeys and deer stocked in Red River area boost Texas wildlife
In northeastern Texas Red River and Bowie counties host over 100 wild turkeys and about 50 deer on 26000 acres leased to the Game Commission. A broad local push led by Martin Stiles and the Red River Wildlife Planning Board aims to spread deer and turkeys across two counties within ten years. The project relies on landowner support, predator control, signs, and patrols with development funds for food patches. Nearby, E T Tolison and others foster wildlife by feeding and protecting stock, while raccoons are slated to arrive and fur yields from muskrats and mink rise through managed trapping efforts.
