Five Convicted In Courts Here
Five criminal cases were disposed in county and district courts this past week. Tom Lujan pleaded guilty to selling beer to a minor and paid a $100 fine. Juan Vasquez received a 12 year sentence for burglary and habitual criminal charges. Gilbert Valenezuela pleaded guilty to theft of wool and got a one year suspended sentence in jail. Jack Walter Ledingham received a two year suspended sentence for driving while intoxicated second offense. Arcadio Mireles was sentenced to one year for breaking and entering and placed on adult probation.

Bishop James M. Stone preaches at St James Church Big Bend
The Rt. Rev. James M. Stone will lead a 9 a.m. service at St James Episcopal and administer confirmation. Assisting is Archdeacon Robert Y. Davis. Stone and his wife are on a weeklong diocesan visitation and will address the Sunday School at 10 15 a.m. The bishop spoke to Canterbury Club last Sunday and attends a Friday noon Men’s luncheon at the Holland Hotel. A 5 to 6 p.m. tea for Bishop and Mrs. Stoney is planned at Dr. and Mrs. Joel Wright’s home.

Charollaise Cattle Expert From France Visits Here
Emile Maurice of Nevers France, renowned Charollaise cattle authority, visited Alpine this week with J. G. Cap Yates and the Yates family from Marfa. He judged cattle at the Houston Fat Stock Show and attended the San Antonio Show, flown in by Bill Hargus of Marathon. Maurice claimed to own one of France’s largest Charollaise herds and praised the Texas herd of Cap Yates. The couple then visited ranches in Vineyard Texas near Fort Worth to see Mrs Lela Yates and Miss Billy Yates.

Officers of the Tri County Community Concert Association announced four concerts for the 1955 56 season in Alpine and Marfa. Cemetery Dinner Slated For March
Alpine Cemetery Association announces its annual March dinner led by president George Kempen Jr. Dues for 1955 are payable to first vice president Lois McIntyre, with rates 12 dollars for grass lots, 6 dollars for half lots, and 14 dollars for full without grass. The group seeks donations to cover maintenance as dues fall short. West Texas predator hunter Lee Duncan killed a male eight foot panther on the Sohl ranch south of Alvine after a two mile chase from the Miles Pierce ranch. Duncan notes it is among the largest he has taken in 20 years. This panther marks a first in the Mt Ord area in about a year.

Grand champion ram Vic tor Chance was shown by Jiles Pierce of Alpine at the San Antonio Livestock Exposition. The grand champion ewe went to Miss 16 Altuda 2nd. Pierce Rambouillets won eight gelds at the show and also held grand and champion titles on rams and ewes at events in Fort Stockton Fort Worth and El Paso.
