The eighth grade girls basketball team finished 18 wins and 3 losses, totaling 646 points for an average of 40.4 per game. Starting guards Debbie Hernandez Elien Hollis and Marcella Espinoza led defense and Connie Comett led scoring with 234 points. Mail delivery widened in 29 rural Texas communities
Congressman Richard White announced that the Post Office Dept approved expanded mail delivery in 29 rural areas of his district. Residents living more than a quarter mile from a post office may receive service once the postmaster is notified and a majority of residents requests it. Study Butte Mine Closes After Mercury Price Decline
Diamond Shamrock began shutting down mercury mining operations at Study Butte in Brewster County due to a 15 percent drop in mercury prices over the past year with no cost reduction.
