Dr T C Crenshaw of Texas Christian University will deliver the main address at a banquet this Friday evening during the Alpha Chi annual council meeting at Sul Ross College. The Texas Chi chapter hosts the two day session with Sister Margaret Rose in charge of the afternoon program in the Fine Arts building. Local officers named include Lewis C Jameson Jr and Alice Owens. Eighty registrations had been received through Wednesday.

Grand jury returns two DWI indictments
The grand jury adjourned after returning two indictments both for driving while intoxicated second offense. A trial was set in the will contest of the late R W Smith of Odessa and Alpine. Testimony ended Wednesday and jury to hear the judge charge yesterday with verdict expected later.

Alpine High FFA entered eight lambs and one calf in the Southwestern Livestock Exposition in El Paso. One lamb, Joe Ramo's Southdown Cross, placed third in its class. Five lambs sold to Peyton Packing Co at 18 to 22 cents. Two lambs returned to Alpine for San Angelo show on Feb 25. Alpine calf fed by Vaughn Musgrave placed 26th and bought by Herbert Kokernot with a slim profit. Alpine team placed sixth in gross identification contests.

Sul Ross College livestock judging teams excel at the Houston Fat Stock Show. The senior team from Sul Ross won first in beef cattle judging and second in general average among 10 colleges, with Cunningham second high individual and Calvert fourth. Grant New Trial In Damages Suit
Judge J C Epperson granted a new trial in the damages suit brought by Mrs Irene Coggins and husband against King Butane Co of Alpine on jury misconduct grounds. This is the second new trial ruling. the first and second trials since 1952 ended in verdicts for the defendant. Mrs Coggins seeks 50000 damages for injuries from a September 22 1947 butane gas explosion causing serious burns. retrial may move to another county.

The Big Bend Sportsmen's Club presented a mounted golden eagle to the Big Bend Memorial Museum in Alpine. Herbert Ogle delivered the gift, received by Dr. Bryan Wildenthal of Sul Ross State College, with students and locals in attendance. The seven foot wingspan bird was killed near Marfa by Alpine hunter John O Casparis on the Brite ranch.

Governor Oscar Soto Maynez of Chihuahua Mexico and his party met officials in Marfa and traveled toward Ojinaga to inaugurate a Lions Club nursery school.
