Alpine Gets 20 Percent Fire Credit
AUSTIN February 16 A 20 percent fire insurance premium credit will apply to policies written in Alpine beginning March 1, announced by Marvin Hatate, fire insurance commissioner. The credit saves about 1,381 dollars on Alpine homeowners fire costs this year based on 1942 premium payments, following a 28 percent credit last year.

Quarters For USC Here Are Sought By Local Council

Alpine RC Chapter Increases Airbase Hospital Supplies
Mrs. Clay Holland, chairwoman of the Alpine chapter of the American Red Cross, announced another donation to the Airbase hospital. Items include 14 heavy bed coats, seven bath robes, five lap robes for wheel chairs, 115 bed pan covers, 25 bedside bags, five Ditty bags, 17 bed jackets, and nine dressing covers. The Alpine chapter has made numerous prior donations that greatly aid patient comfort.

Two Alpine boys, Lieut William J Melton and Flight Officer Don E Taylor, were among hundreds of pilots in Class 43 B who graduated Tuesday at the RAF Gulf Coast Training Center. Melton, nephew of Mrs Kate Mosley of Alpine, earned his wings at Brooks Field in San Antonio. Taylor, son of Mr and Mrs Vic Taylor of Alpine, graduated from Blackland Field in Waco after two years at Sul Ross college.

Famous Negro Hurdler Stationed at AFS Hero
Joseph Herman Batiste the renowned Negro hurdler is stationed at the Advanced Flying School as a private first class in the Air Forces. He helps train recruits and is noted for his past record achievements in national and international hurdles. He previously served as an ambulance driver during the early war and helped evacuate wounded in the Dunkirk region.

The annual FFA livestock show drew 38 lambs and 14 calves with grand champion calf shown by Keesey Kimball and grand champion lamb by Ernest Gibbons Jr. Over $200 in prize money was awarded to all exhibitors, funded by Alpine citizens. Redden Appointed Provost Marshal at Flying School
Capt Joseph J. Redden named the new provost marshal at the Advanced Flying School. He arrives from Fort Worth where he served on the Air Corps Headquarters staff. Since May 1941 he has served at Ft. Riley Kansas Lowery Field Colorado and aboard the Air Corps chief of staff in Washington. In civilian life he was a lawyer in and around Omaha Nebraska and is an Iowan from Council Bluffs.
