Jury Finds 3 Bills and Adjourns Grand Jury
The grand jury adjourned after brief session reporting three indictments. Christine Johnson, also called Christine Fuller, was indicted for theft and cattle theft. A third party indicted name not released pending arrest. Three trespass to try title cases and one divorce were disposed, court recessed until next Monday. Alpine Boy Awarded Bronze Star for Meritorious Service
Captain F. R. Lewis from Alpine, son of Mr and Mrs F E Lewis of Horse Heaven Oregon, received the Bronze Star at Camp Robinson Arkansas for meritorious service in direct support of combat from 1942 43 and 43 44 as CO of the 202nd Military Police in European and North African theatres. He had previously earned the Silver Star for heroic achievement in the Italian campaign and served in Algeria Tunisia Sicily England North Africa and Italy before returning to the States.

The Alpine Lions hosted the Marfa Lions in Sul Ross gym and won 22 to 14 with Stockton Perryman Kay Corkran and Wally Davis leading the scoring. The club had earlier defeated Centennial School representatives and an independent Latin American team in three recent games, dropping one to a strong opponent. Mr and Mrs Guy Crawford left for San Antonio for medical treatment.

Alpine pilot's bomber scores direct hit on Japanese cruiser
Captain Tom H. Stovell, 25, of Alpine Texas, a Liberator pilot with the Fifth Air Force in the Southwest Pacific, has been promoted to Captain after flying long missions. He piloted a four engined bomber that scored two direct hits on a Japanese heavy cruiser in a noted engagement. His record includes serving 16 months with the Coast Artillery, graduating from Texas A M in 1941, and flying since June 1942. His parents, Mr and Mrs John Stovell, live in Alpine.

Car Parts Depot Opens Store In Alpine
Car Parts Depot, wholesale dealer in automobile parts and accessories, garage and filling station equipment, opened this week in the Hord Motor Co. building on West Main and North 7th. The firm, with branches in Pecos, Marfa, and nearby towns, will sell only to dealers in wholesale quantities. Partial stock is available with more shipments en route and a full assortment planned for wartime. Raymond Hitchcock of Marfa is manager of the Alpine store with Frank Specht as assistant. Both are discharged war veterans.
