Final Army Medical Exams Draw Brewster County Men
Twenty six Brewster county men went to El Paso last Saturday for army physical examinations and returned the next day. Those passing will be called later for induction. Names include Magdalena Areta Garcia and Horace A. Phillips among others. Four additional Brewster men were examined and transferred to other boards: Nelson Leonard Lether, Wallace Burton Stapp, William Jackson, and Gerald Newton Wilson.

Public School Teachers of Nation Given the Task of Sugar Rationing
Washington February 10 public school teachers nationwide were tasked with sugar rationing to curb hoarding. War Ration Book No 1 will distribute stamps yielding about 12 ounces per person per week, with one applicant per household signing to declare sugar on hand. False reports carry penalties up to 10000 fine or 10 years in prison. Each book has 28 stamps and storekeepers tear out stamps as purchases occur. Separate registrations allowed for room mates to avoid family hoarding impacts.

Alpine Woman Burned in Gas Explosion at Home
Miss Lona Cook received serious burns when she struck a match in a gas filled room at her home just west of the junior high school. Clothing caught fire as the blast swept through, burning her body. the fire destroyed the house and its contents before firefighters arrived.

This evening Senator H. L. Winfield will represent Gov. Coke R. Stevenson at a meeting in Ojinaga Chihuahua honoring Gov. Alfredo Chavez. Judge R. L. Initial steps toward organizing a women’s auxiliary to the Alpine Volunteer Fire department were taken at a city office meeting Wednesday night. Local women attended to cooperate with the fire department during the emergency, spread public safety guidance for air raids and fires, and undertake first aid training. Talks by Mayor J. C. Alpine Bucks Edge Sanderson In Close District Showdown
Alpine High School Bucks defeated Sanderson Eagles 20 to 16 in Sul Ross gymnasium to extend their lead in the district basketball race. The Eagles led 4-2 after one period and 11-6 at halftime before Alpine surged ahead late in the third and maintained a slim margin to the final buzzer.
