Rapid Odessa cement plant rises with giant silo spiral
Rapid construction of the Southwestern Portland Cement Co. plant in Odessa nears completion with 121 foot silos built by slip form a 10 by 10 honeycomb pattern and a large kiln. Crews work around the clock and push concrete around the clock. About 18 feet of structure rise daily as forms are slipped upward. The target completion is April 1 with cement shipping planned for May 1 to the territory.

Vernon McIntyre of Alpine has been named official ambassador by the 16th Anniversary San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. He will act as liaison between Alpine and the event, handling literature and ticket orders for the World's Championship Rodeo. Dale Robertson stars in the rodeo as Jim Hardie in Tales of Wells Fargo.

Soldier Thee Re-Enlists In Combat Training Draft Notes
PFC Joseph Thee, 24, Alpine native, took part with the 4th Armored Division in combat efficiency tests in Erlangen Germany. A radio repairman for mpany A, he joined the Army in 1957 and completed basic training at Fort Hood before overseas duty in November. The Alpine High School graduate formerly worked for Western Union in San Antonio.
