About 125 area residents gathered for the formal opening on Sunday. Speakers included County Judge Felix McGaughy and Marathon librarian Alma McAdams. The modern concrete block building cost about $8,000 to erect and was opened after Judge McGaughy cut the ribbon.

Alpine city commission and chamber of commerce board discussed a plan to bring water from the Daugherty ranch well 3 4 miles northwest of town. Martin Daugherty proposed a 100000 capital company to lay pipe to the city for 25c per 1000 gallons, or sell at 5c per 1000 gallons. No action was taken. The well reportedly yields 350 gallons per minute over ten days and sits at 330 feet deep.
