Amblin Around mixed day on Alpine streets and telecast tie ins

A 5 year old Loy and a bantam rooster Robin stirred Holland Avenue traffic in Alpine with Cyril Clay chasing the pet after it escaped its pen. Neighbors and local businesspeople joined the scramble until the rooster was corralled into Alpine Saddlery and Cyril recaptured it. The item also notes Dan Blocker on television and invites, awards, and local notices about residents moving into Alpine, church ceremonies, and community happenings.

Organization Of Alpine Marfa CAP Squadron Planned

A Civil Air Patrol squadron will be organized at the Marfa Alpine airport at 2 30 p m Sunday with officers from the El Paso squadron in attendance. The group will serve the area and establish local CAP activities.

Scouts To Get Eagle Awards At Alpine Ceremony

Two Eagle Scout awards will be highlighted at the Court of Award Ceremony of Explorer Post No. 46 in Alpine at 7 30 p.m. Monday Feb 11 in the Brewster County Courthouse District Court Room. Scout Tak Kubota Don Burgess and another will receive the Eagle. Jimmy Wright will receive Life and Emergency Service awards. Marion Brooks named Explorer Apprentice. New explorers Byron Lindell Hoffman and Douglas Glasscock inducted. Other officials include Dr Bevington Reid CAP presiding with Dr Bryan Wildenthal and John Klassen assisting. CAP unit discusses search and rescue readiness after training. Women play key roles as typists secretaries and nurses. CAP members may wear Air Force uniforms with insignia and access home study courses.

Votaw Elected Rotary President in Pine Club

Reginald Votaw will take office next July as president of the Alpine Rotary Club succeeding Chalmers Broadfoot. Broadfoot became vice-president while Glenn Davis and Charles M. Hunter were re elected secretary and treasurer. New directors named were Curtis Kelley Otto Hilbrich James Glasscock and Gerald Ogle. Outgoing directors were Elton Miles Dr Bevington Reed J C Cooley and Tom Stovell. Mr Wotan and his brother Frank own Brewster County Motors Ford and Mercury dealers.

Brewster County Voters Pay Poll Taxes and Exemptions

Brewster County citizens paid 1131 poll taxes and obtained 15 age 21 exemptions for the 1957 voting year according to the tax collector’s report. Last year 1481 poll taxes and 46 exemptions were recorded for new voters. In Brewster County average voters need not obtain exemptions in advance of elections.

Roughage Feed Program Resumed by Government

The Farm ers Home Administration resumes roughage feed applications as funds last month exhausted. County supervisor Patrick F. Sullivan of Marfa says applications are due by Friday February 15 to supply basic livestock through March 15. Alpine area applications are handled by James Boyd in the ASC office.

Directors Seek Better Clothing Plant Operation

Alpine Garment Factory directors plan talks in San Antonio with Tex-Son Co officials Jim Casner and Paul Forchheimer about future operations. They discuss buying new machinery, training costs, and potential options if Tex-Son withdraws, including leasing or selling to another manufacturer. Frank Attaguile inspected Alpine and initiated negotiations with the community.

Pancake Supper Planned Feb 15 by Alpine Rotary Club

Alpine Rotary Club announces its annual pancake supper on Friday night February 15 at Sul Ross State College Cafeteria. Proceeds support the club's Sul Ross scholarship fund. Tickets cost 1 dollar for adults and 50 cents for children and include all you can eat pancakes bacon milk or coffee. Tickets available from Rotarians or local merchants.

Three men were injured slightly when their truck overturned yesterday on State Highway 118 about 25 miles south of Alpine. Willie Ortiz and Hilario Acosta of Marathon were treated at Lockhart Clinic. The third man received first aid.

Si Phillips Transferred to WIU Abilene Office

S B Si Phillips, West Texas Utilities district manager in Marfa, is promoted and moved to Abilene to start Feb 15 as an administrative and executive assistant in the general office. H C Ledbetter becomes district chief clerk in Marfa, with Lester D. Cape as acting chief clerk. Phillips, a 17 year WTU veteran and Harvard graduate, has served in multiple Texas roles and in World War II as a weather officer.

Bucks Face Stiff Test In Marfa Tonight

Alpine Bucks play the second game of the 7A double round robin in Marfa against rivals the Shorthorns. In the B game, John Crider led a 49 43 comeback. in the A game Don Burgess paced a 70 42 win as Alpine reaches 18 4 on the season.
