Brewster Memorial Hospital adopts a stricter admission policy after accounts receivable exceed 100000. A sliding deposit scale based on expected stay, with deductions for direct insurance payments, will be implemented. physicians will inform patients, and administrator John Eathorne will prepare details for the November meeting.
Congressman Richard White named 17 nominees from the 16th District for United States Naval Academy entry. William Randall Wilson and Thomas L. Coats Jr. are among the Alpine students chosen on a competitive basis through civil service exams and academics, with final appointments pending Naval Academy recommendations. Roy Lee Pirtle of Marfa takes over management of the Big Bend Travel Service office, planning a move to Alpine. he is a veteran and Sul Ross State University attendee.
The Alpine High School yearbook El Ocotillo received a Medalist rating from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the highest honor. It scored 926 of 1000 for design layout and content as judged by the association. Co editors were Jan Ray and Elaine Neu. Sponsor was Mrs. Abby Gallego.
Dick Blair will join Charles Chambers in running Chambers Appliance starting January 1 1970. Blair is married to the Chambers daughter Ruth. They moved from Annandale Virginia fourteen miles from Washington DC after 22 and a half years with the telephone company. The firm handles sales and service of Maytag Philco and Westinghouse appliances.
The Texas Highway Department unveils a new 1970 registration system with a light blue on white plate, mailed renewal applications, and three part forms. Owners may renew by mail or in person, with a March 1 mail cut off and a $1 handling fee. The system relies on computerization to reduce in person waiting lines and speeds up plate issuance.
Ida Mae Chastain 78 died Friday night in Brewster Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were Sunday at First Christian Church with Revs Art Hanna and Bob Bristol officiating. Burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. She was born March 15 1891 in Russia to Jewish parents and lived in Alpine 69 years. Survivors include three daughters a stepson several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Brewster County 4-H meeting at Central Elementary December 15 elected Joe Lane as secretary after Colin Barrow moved away and planned a milk drinks learning trip. Indian Lodge in Davis Mountains State Park will close for 12 days from January 5 to January 16 1970 for preventive maintenance while the park stays open.
